What's in a Name?

The Boat Name: Plumber's Helper

Many people have asked us where the boat name “Plumber’s Helper” came from. Good question!

Captain Jim is a licensed plumbing contractor (now retired) who previously owned and operated Great Lakes Plumbing, Heating & AC in Petoskey and Indian River for over 30 years.

When Jim first started up the company, he used a much smaller boat to run service calls back and forth to Mackinac Island and dubbed it Plumber’s Helper.

Jim was also involved in tournament fishing and was known around the tournament circuit by that same name. When he started charter fishing, the name had stuck!
